The spirit of experimentation, variety of materials used, bold use of colour and a deep sense of sentiment of the Russian constructivists and Russian avant-garde painters have influenced Yana Myronenko. In particular, her work connects into her sense of cultural identity.
Yana Myronenko was born in Russia in 1966 and now lives in Sydney. She graduated in the National Art School (NAS). She is an artist who works intuitively with abstraction of landscapes. Using rich texture and mixed media, in the last few years Yana has been focusing on the architectural forms, shapes and structural elements.
The content of her painting and mark making was influenced by Malevich and Scully. She describes her current work as “Exploring the city’s architectural landscape” In her paintings Yana tries to emphasize the point that cultural identity of a person is a by-product of the architecture around them as a part of nature and environment structures.
Sydney, with its unique geography and history provides many opportunities to develop her work. The light and form of the distinctive building in Sydney’s cityscape has become the subject of Yana’s new constructive vision.
